Taylor’s Scion, 1855

A pre-phyloxera tawny port released by Taylors.

Really old, rich, spicy wood with caramel and pruines. Baked apples emerge, with raisins and a sweet balsamic cinnamon , nutmeg and whisky. A smoky vanilla pod, rum soaked raisins and sweet honey. The palate is bright, full of orange and pipe tobacco with lemon skin and a faint hint of crystalised ginger. Dried leather with cocoa powder, yet all the while, fresh, lovely balance and a soft alcohol peeking out. Pomegranates, figs and kernel notes too. Perfect.  100pts (Oct 2012)
