- Established 1865
- Founded by Theodor Wiese & Dankert Krohn
- Owned by Fladgate Partnership
The founders of this company were fish merchants, selling salt cod to Portugal from their native Norway, and started shipping port back home. It remained in Norwegian, and then English, hands until 1937 when Edmundo Augusto Carneiro bought the business, making it a Portuguese owned Port shipper.
It remained in this family until 2013 when the Fladgate partnership bought the company, but kept the third generation of the Carneiro family in place running the business.
Until 2012 I had never tried a wine from Krohn, but quickly realised that their aged Colheitas are some of the best there are. Their vintage too are often overlooked, and you can get real bargains from their Single Quinta wine too.
